Juan J. Mazo is "Profesor Titular" at the University of Zaragoza (Spain) since November 2001.  He graduated in Physics (1992) and in 1996 got a PhD in Physics, both at the University of Zaragoza. From October 1997 to October 1999 was Fulbright Visting Scholar at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), working in collaboration with Prof. Terry P. Orlando.

His main research interest is the study of discrete non linear systems: Frenkel Kontorova or discrete sine-Gordon chain. Josephson-junction arrays and devices. Non linear localized excitations: Solitons and Discrete breathers. Brownian motor and ratchet devices. Dynamics of biomolecules.

His teaching activity is focused on Thermodynamics, Statistical Physics, Non linear dynamics and Complex Systems and General Physics.

Currently he is the Head of the Condensed Matter Department at The University of Zaragoza and Cooordinator of the Master in Physics and Physics Technologies Program.

He was born in Zaragoza in December 27th, 1969.
